The lovely Dales town of Pateley Bridge, which was named Great Britain's Best Village High Street in 2016, is located in the narrow valley of the River Nidd. Two award-winning butchers, a fishmonger, a bakery, and the oldest sweet shop in England are all located in charming tiny lanes and yards off the steep main street. There are also many places to dine and drink there. The local leisure centre has a swimming pool, and the riverfront park with a children's play area is not to be missed. Pateley Bridge is well recognised for its award-winning floral displays. The town's Craft Workshops and the award-winning Nidderdale Museum, which features an engaging array of exhibits illuminating all facets of former Dales life, are both worthwhile stops.
