Mentioned in both The Times Best Secluded Beach Cottages in the UK 2023 and Best Beach Retreats in the UK 2024 is this quaint dwelling, Oakridge Cottage. Oakridge Cottage is a romantic, stone-fronted fisherman's cottage, hidden within the cobbled streets of the picturesque fishing village of Robin Hood's Bay. As you step inside the property you are greeted by the charm of the open living / dining / kitchen area, the property has recently undergone renovation and extensive modernisation whilst still retaining original features such as sash windows, beamed ceilings and wooden floors. Enjoy quality time as you work together in the country-style kitchen to create a mouth-watering meal, as you enjoy a glass of wine listening to your favourite music through the internet radio, then get the woodburning stove going and spend the evening snuggled up with one another (perhaps with your furry friend) as you catch up on your box sets or stream a movie from the Smart TV. Climb the traditional winding staircase up to the first floor and make yourself comfortable under the duvet, pick up your favourite book or pop on the other Smart TV and then drift away into a deep sleep. As you wake the next morning, wander through into the shower room, place your towel on the heated rail and enjoy a rejuvenating shower. Once refreshed and ready for the day make your way back down the staircase and enjoy a Nespresso or speciality tea. Then pull on your boots and head out into the bustling streets of Robin Hood's Bay where you can enjoy a hearty breakfast at the Cove Cafe before a walk to the Old Coastguard Station, a historic National Trust owned building. Stroll along the breath-taking, all year-round dog friendly beach and stop off for a pint or two at the Smugglers Bar before heading back to the cottage for a relaxing night in with some fish and chips. A short drive, bus ride or walk along the coastal path will take you to the nearby seaside town of Whitby where you can visit the impressive Whitby Abbey, a Gothic ruin said to have been the inspiration behind Bram Stokers famous "Dracula". Whilst in the area, see sights such as Whitby Beach, Whitby Lighthouse and Whalebone Arch up close, or from afar with a walk up the 199 steps for amazing views of the town.
The cobbled village of Robin Hood's Bay is a quintessential fishing village, filled with pretty shops, traditional pubs and delicious eateries. With a stunning beach and many historical sites, there is so much to do here during your stay.
